Carl H. Rhoads, 82, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died from natural causes on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Carl was born August 19, 1926, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of Charles Rhoads Sr. and Jennie Looff Rhoads. He was educated in Grundy Center and served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Navy. On October 14, 1953, Carl was united in marriage to Gladys Henrichs at Bethany Presbyterian in Grundy Center. He worked for Lee Schultz from 1953 to 1967; he then purchased the Shell Gas Station in Grundy Center, which operated from 1967 to 1982. After Carl sold the gas station he worked for Don's Tire and Appliance until he retired. Carl loved gardening, growing flowers but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Carl was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; son, Curtis(Kevi) Rhoads of Lima, Ohio; daughter, Karilyn(Dob)Meyer of Loveland, Colorado; son, Kendall(Val) Rhoads of Grundy Center; daughter, Karla(Jim)DeBoer of Dumont; 16 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren; sister, Carrie Mackie of Marshalltown; brothers, Henry "Dusty" Rhoads of Kansas City, Missouri, and Richard (Belva) Rhoads of Cedar Falls; and sisters-in-law, Leona Rhoads of Holland, Iowa , Ethel Rhoads of Grundy Center and Marie Rhoads of Grundy Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John, Charles Jr., William, Donald and Kenneth.
