Buster Nyce, 71, of Union, Iowa, died from natural causes on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Community Church in Union with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery, with full military rites provided by the Union-Harry Crow Post #255 of the American Legion. Visitation is at the Community Church in Union, on Sunday, March 25, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm., with the family present to greet friends. Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is serving the family of Buster Nyce. Memorials may be directed to the South Hardin Recreation Area or to the Union Community Church.
J. Leonard "Buster" Nyce, was born September 18, 1935, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Wilmer Hauser and Arlene (Riley) Hauser. Buster received his education in Liscomb, graduating from Liscomb High School with the class of 1953. On July 19, 1958, Buster was united in marriage to Bonnalyn "Bonnie" Quaife at Bethel Grove Church in Liscomb. In 1958, Buster enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country until 1960, when he was honorably discharged, during which time he attained the rank of Specialist 4th Class. During his military service, Buster toured with the Red Stone Missile Program, which was the rocket booster that launched the first American into space. Buster drove truck for R.W. Snider for sixteen years in Bangor. Buster then began work for Johnson-Hauser Grain, which changed to Lawn Hill Coop and is currently known as Prairie Land Co-Operative, retiring in 1998. After his retirement, Buster stayed busy with farming for Paglia Farms, driving for Faris Trucking, doing car delivery for Union Auto, and being "on call" for "the girls".
Buster was a forty-five year member of the Union Fire Department, a member of the South Hardin Recreation Area, where he enjoyed golfing and served on the board for two terms, and a member of the Union City Council. Buster enjoyed spending his summers on the Mississippi River in Guttenburg, with family and friends. He especially loved attending and bragging about his grandchildren's sporting event accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Nyce of Union; two daughters Dianna Haywood and her husband Harris; Deanna Vaux and her husband Gary; and one son Greg; seven grandchildren-Brant, Blake, Katie, Cory, Brittany, Morgan, and Mitchell; his mother Arlene Hauser; his mother-in-law Lula Quaife; one sister Marlys Hauser; and one brother Kenny Nyce and his wife Darla.
He was preceded in death by his dad Wilmer Hauser and his father-in-law Ben Quaife.
