Bruce Kellum

Bruce C. Kellum, 71, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at his home, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Peace United Church of Christ, 1800 11th Street SE, Waverly, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Bruce was born on December 11, 1948 to his parents Henry and Averil (Whitney) Kellum. He was raised in the Dike area and graduated from Dike High School in the class of 1967. Bruce was married to Pat Dietrick and they had three children together. They later divorced. He was then united in marriage to Zelda Tjebkes on April 17, 1981 and she brought two children of her own into the family. Bruce and Zelda enjoyed 38 wonderful years together.

Bruce was employed as a truck driver and drove truck most of his career for Bertch, from which he retired after over 30 years of hard work.

Bruce loved fishing, hunting and woodworking. He had an incredible talent working with wood and created toys, tables and clocks to name just a few. He loved to play cards with his wife, Zelda, especially Push. He was also fond of trying his luck at the casino from time to time. However, his true joy in life came from spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Bruce is survived by his wife Zelda Kellum; his children LaDonna Hinders, Dan (Dianah) Brandt, Candy (Steve) Young and Crissa (Matt) Brouwer; his grandchildren Megan, Jarred, Kory, Ashlyn, Hunter, Ariel, Kaylee, Charlie, Cole, Jake and Lyla; great-grandchildren Aiden, Liam, Joshua, Ceagen, Cody, Gaven, Kenzie, Waylon, Cecilia, Jennifer, Jaxson and Elijah; brother Michael (Jan) Kellum; sisters Illene (Ray) Miller, Cherlyn (Jim) Brooke and Zatha (Tracey) Hughbanks; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents; son Charlie Kellum; and brothers Dale Kellum and Roger Kellum.
