Bonnie Hurst, 90, of Garner formerly of Eldora, passed away at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa on Monday, February 3, 2014. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, Iowa with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, Iowa from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, February 6, 2014. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Bonnie, the daughter of Leonard G. and M. June (Burnham) Orpin was born July 14, 1923 in Alden. She graduated from Alden High School.
Bonnie married Robert Hurst May 3, 1941 at Hampton. The couple lived in Alden until 1955 when they moved to Eldora. Bonnie was a devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker and was active in the Women's Fellowship at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a past president and a 53 year member of Chapter FA, P.E.O. Sisterhood and was a member of the (Old) Young Mothers Club. She enjoyed reading, traveling and visiting with friends and family. Bonnie and Bob spent several winters in Arizona and made many friends there.
Following Bob's death July 19, 2004, Bonnie lived in Eldora until 2009 when she moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner to be near her daughter Pat. In 2011 she moved to Concord Care Center where she resided until her death.
She is survived by one daughter, Pat and her husband Roger Ginapp of Garner; one son, Robin Hurst and his fiance Ginny Westra of Westmont, IL; five grandchildren, Todd Ginapp of Missouri City, TX, Scott Ginapp and his wife, Robin of Garner, Kristin Hurst and her partner Jared Layton of Clearfield, UT, Jonathan Hurst of Reno, NV and Tonya Evans and her husband Coty Evans of Rosharon, TX; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; and one brother, Maurice Orpin.
