Betty Roll

November 20, 1926 — December 9, 2009

Betty Mae Roll, 83, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls of natural causes. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Interment will be held at Eastlawn Memory Garden in Eldora.



Betty was born on November 20, 1926 in Eldora, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Lettow) Balvanz. She was one of 9 children and grew up in the Eldora area, graduating from Eldora High School in 1944. Betty met Bernard Roll and the couple were married on February 17, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple moved to rural Hubbard where Betty helped Bernard farm and raise purebred hogs. The couple later welcomed a son. When Bernard retired, Betty continued the hog operation for 7 years. Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for seven years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and she loved birds. She was a member of the Eldora Alumni Committee. Along with her husband, she enjoyed selling the tomatoes they grew in their garden. Betty always enjoyed visiting with company and hosting family gatherings.



Betty is survived by her son Gary Roll (Dawn Doron) of Iowa Falls; grandson Taylor Roll (fiancee Courtney Grim) of Ames, IA; sisters Irene Ziesman, Janet Bradford and Viola German; brothers Marvin & Kenneth Balvanz; sisters-in-law Ruth, Mary, Joan, Ellen & Doris Balvanz; former daughter-in-law Teresa Roll; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernard who passed away April 24, 2007; brothers Robert, Harold and Donald Balvanz.
