Betty Frerichs

August 30, 1924 — February 5, 2014

Betty Iris Frerichs, age 89, of Eldora, formerly of Steamboat Rock, passed away Wednesday February 5, 2014 at Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center, in Eldora, while under the care of Iowa Hospice. Visitation will be held at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 1:30 P.M. until time of memorial service at 2:30 P.M. at the church. Burial will be held privately. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Betty was born on August 30, 1924 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Tholen) Van Dornum. She graduated from Steamboat Rock High School with the Class of 1942. After graduation Betty began working as a telephone operator in Steamboat Rock until she was united in marriage to Arthur Lee Frerichs on July 17, 1946. Together they welcomed two children into their family. Betty worked periodically as a housekeeper and babysitter in Steamboat Rock. She also served as her Aunt Hattie's caregiver for many years. Later in life she worked for several years at Knight's Locker in Steamboat Rock.

Betty was a long time member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Dorcas Society. Betty enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. She loved cats and enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado with her daughter Diane and son-in-law Steve. Betty greatly enjoyed visits from her granddaughters Renee & Gina and great-grandsons Tyler & Bo.

Betty is survived by her daughter Diane (Steve) Rash of Union, IA; daughter-in-law Marcia Frerichs of Steamboat Rock, IA; granddaughters Renee Frerichs (Jerry Carter) and Gina Montejano; great-grandsons Tyler and Bo Montejano; brother Russell (Joan) Van Dornum and nieces Cheryl Duncan and Kathy Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur; son Douglas Frerichs and infant twin siblings Lois and Louis Van Dornum.
