Betty Eklund

Betty M. Eklund, 91, of Eldora, Iowa died on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.  A visitation for Betty will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Eldora United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Craft officiating.  Private family burial will be held at the Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville, Iowa.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Betty May Hagge, daughter of Walter and Alice (Carmen) Hagge was born on January 11, 1927 in Bondurant, Iowa.  She resided in Bondurant until the age of four, when her family moved to Mitchellville, Iowa.  She received her education in Mitchellville, graduating from Mitchellville High School in 1945.  Following her education, she was united in marriage to Raymond C. Harris.  To this union their son Kendall was born.  The couple later divorced.  Betty’s main vocation was as a bookkeeper.  In 1977, she was voted National Bookkeeper of the Year by the National Bookkeepers Society.   On July 9, 1988 Betty married Gordon Eklund at the Eldora United Methodist Church.  Betty loved travel, playing cards of any kind, and bowling.  She was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church and The National Bookkeepers Society.

Survivors include her son, Kendall (Sue) Harris of Houston, TX; step-sons, Timothy (Connie) Eklund of Zimmerman, MN, David (Mary) Eklund of Las Vegas, NV, Wesley (Kathy) Eklund of Rogers, MN; her grandchildren, Catherine Lynn Harris of Seattle, WA and Matthew Kendall Harris of San Antonio, TX, and her brother William Hagge of Clarksville, TN.

In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Eklund; three brothers, Robert, Paul, and James Hagge; and sister, Dorothy Miller.
