Betty Bottema

March 10, 1928 — September 16, 2010



Betty M. Bottema, 82, of Eldora, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 20 th , 2010, 11:00 am at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Pastor Justin Weber officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora. A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home.



Betty was born on March 10, 1928 in Geneva, Iowa, Franklin, County, the daughter of Ernest and Lucille (Benson) Bauge. She was raised in Bradford and attended school there until the 8 th grade. She then began work babysitting, detassling corn and walked beans.



She later met and married Jacob F. Bottema on December 19, 1953 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. The couple had two sons that died shortly after birth, Gregory D. Bottema who was born on October 1, 1954 and passed away that same day. Clayton J. Bottema was born December 27, 1960 and passed away the following day. They later welcomed daughter Twilla and son Martin. Betty worked at the Corner Cupboard Cafe, Farmer Bros. and helped her husband Jake run the junkyard in Eldora. Betty and Jake lived in the Eldora area most of their married lives.



Betty loved to crochet, play Bingo and talk and spend time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends and family.



She is survived by her daughter Twilla J. (Doug) Hanna of Eldora and son Martin L. (Vivian) Bottema of New Providence; 2 step-sons Bill (Anna ) Bottema of Colorado Springs, CO and Richard Evans of Eldora; 2 grandsons Jacob Bottema and Dylan Hanna; 2 granddaughters Shannon Curtis and Mandie Bottema; 3 great-granddaughters Dakota, Tiffani and Rebecca. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jake; parents Ernest and Lucille Bauge; brother Robert Bauge; infant sons Gregory and Clayton Bottema.
