Bettie Lucille Thede, age 87, of Reinbeck, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck.
Lucille was born on August 10, 1927 in rural Reinbeck, Iowa, to her parents Cloyd and Bettie (Fleming) Frey. She graduated from Dinsdale High School in the Class of 1944. Lucille was united in marriage to Robert Thede on January 26, 1947 in Traer, Iowa. Together they welcomed three children into their family.
Lucille was a long-time member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. There she served the church as a committee member of the church library and was Chairperson of the UCC Christian Education Board for several years. Lucille was a 1st grade Sunday School Teacher for 22 years and a member of the Women's Fellowship & Eve Circle. She also served as Secretary for the Merry Makers Sunday School Class. Lucille was a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed scrapbooking and photo albums. She was an avid greeting card sender. She would send her friends and family cards for all of life's occasions, many times with a sweet letter enclosed. Lucille loved to attend her grandchildren's sporting events and activities and her true joy in life came from spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lucille is survived by her children, Allen (Von) Thede of Reinbeck, IA, Jan L. Lee of Dubuque, IA and Susan (Kenneth) Nichols of Hubbard, IA; grandchildren, Lee (Jessica) Thede, Travis (Kelcy) Thede, Josie (Bryce) Lemke and Jenny (Todd) Pekarek; great-grandchildren, Payton, Kade, Kylie, Addison, Dawson, Sawyer, Quinn and one on the way and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; grandson Matthew Thede; brother Kenneth Frey; sisters Gertrude Dietrich, Laurene Knaack and Blanche Frey.
