Bert Pruin

Bert Gerald Pruin, 82, of Holland, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Grundy County Hospital Long Term Care in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, Grundy Center, Iowa with Pastor Mathew Nuiver officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Timothy Christian School 18000 D Ave. Wellsburg, Iowa 50680 in Bert's name.

Bert was born February 24, 1928 at home near Stout, IA in Grundy County, to Pete and Grace (Bulthuis) Pruin. The family later moved to Dike, IA, where he attended school. On April 4, 1951, he was united in marriage to Adele Eilers at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. Bert worked as a farm hand, helped his dad haul cream for the Dike Creamery, and was a master carpenter. He served as a Rural Letter Carrier for 18 years, retiring in 1992. Bert taught Sunday school and served as a deacon and Elder at Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church and United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. He loved to go fishing in Minnesota with the whole family until he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1997. He continued to enjoy card games, Bingo, and visiting with family and friends, and most of all being with his devoted wife Adele.



He is survived by his wife Adele, two sons David (Victoria) of Dike, Daryl, of Stout, two daughters Donna (Gary) Paszkiewicz of Kimmswick, MO, and Deann Kane (Lester) of Grundy Center, nine grandchildren, Heather (Travis) Schachterle, Melissa (Dan) Borwig, Katie (Shawn Hesson) Pruin, Ryan, Grace, Amy, and Emily Paszkiewicz, and Mason and Joshua Kane, and five great grandchildren, Megan, Cassidy, Logan, Skyler, and Carson. He has two sisters Inez (Ed) McCarville of Dike, Mildred Goodell of Dike, and a brother, Harry, of Eastern Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
