Bernice L. Riggert, 93, of Eldora, Iowa died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Bernice Louise Stemmerman, daughter of Edward and Sophia (Finke) Stemmerman was born February 17, 1922 on the family farm in Butler County, Iowa. On April 30, 1944 she married Chris H. Riggert at St. John's Lutheran Church Vilmar. The couple resided in Eldora where they owned and operated Riggerts Wallpaper, Paint and Carpet for many years. Mr. Riggert died on September 17, 1965. As well as being a homemaker, Bernice also worked in retail sales for several local hardware stores. An ardent bridge player, she enjoyed playing cards in several groups with her many friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crochet and needle point. Her faith, family and friends were at the center of her life.
Survivors include her three sons, Robert (Marian) Riggert of Mancos, CO; Steven (Joan) Riggert of Louisville, KY; James Riggert of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother, Paul (Merna) Stemmerman of Cedar Falls, IA; sister-in-law, Audrey Stemmerman of Allison; seven grandchildren (Justin, Aaron, Kirsten, Sarah, Meagan, Chris, and Anna); 1 great grandchild (Wyatt); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Chris, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Erwin Stemmerman and her sister-in-law, Arlene Stemmerman.
