Bernice McGowan

Bernice McGowan was born on September 13, 1918 in Reinbeck, IA, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Fredrichson) Weben. Bernice was raised and attended school in Reinbeck, and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1936. Bernice was united in marriage to John N. McGowan on November 28, 1938 in Waterloo, IA. The couple moved to a farm near Gladbrook where they farmed until John?s death in 1984. Bernice moved to Reinbeck in 1994. Bernice had worked for the canning factory in Reinbeck and the nursing home in Gladbrook, but was first and foremost a wife and mother. Bernice was a member of the Amity Presbyterian Church of rural Reinbeck and also the Eastern Star.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Carol Dinsdale and husband Chester of Sumner, IA, Judy Hein and husband Don of Gladbrook, IA; seven grandchildren.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; sister, Imogene Peters; daughter, Janit Miller.
