Bernice A. Allbee, 92, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Monday, October 22, 2007 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 25 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Bernice was born February 8, 1915, in Eagle City, Iowa, daughter of Clarence D. and Ethel C. (Dougherty) Leggett. She attended Eagle City Country School then graduated from Iowa Falls High School. On June 16, 1931 she was united in marriage to Ralph R. Allbee in South Dakota. Bernice was employed by the Rissi Miller Corporation for many years and she also maintained her husband's REA Express Route while Ralph was serving in the U.S. Navy. She prepared taxes for several individuals and worked as a book-keeper for Walters Real Estate. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora and the VFW Auxiliary. Bernice enjoyed serving as a homemaker for her husband and extended family.
Surviving is her sister Bessie Nehring of Owasa; daughter-in-law, Donna Allbee of Eldora; grandchildren, Steve (Robin) Allbee of Eldora, Mark (Deborah) Allbee of Temecula, California, Cathy (Mike) Fife of Penasquitas, California, Ralph J. (Lynn) Allbee of Eldora, Annette (Danny) Duncan of Sonora, California, and Liz Allbee Wolfe of Eldora; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Ralph R. on November 27, 2006; her parents; son, Ives Allbee; brothers, Laurel, Ives and Glenn Leggett, and sister, Delma Berens.
