Bernadine M. Niedermann, 85, of Reinbeck, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at her home while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 8

, 2010 10:30 A.M. at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Burial will follow funeral services at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 4 to 6 P.M. at French-Hand Funeral Home.
Bernadine was born on September 11, 1924 in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Nimon T. and Cora Edna (Cox) Mattingly. She grew up in the Tama and Toledo area and graduated from Tama High School in 1943. While attending a dance at the Forest Ballroom in Marshalltown, Iowa, she met Gilbert Niedermann and it was love at first sight. The two were later united in marriage on November 2, 1946 in Tama. The couple welcomed 5 children. The two lived in the Tama area until 1956, where they relocated to Reinbeck and have remained there ever since.
She worked seasonally for Pioneer Seed in town and ran a pool hall in downtown Reinbeck for a few years. Bernadine enjoyed Polka dancing and was a member of the Cedar Valley Polka Club and the Polka Club of America. She enjoyed knitting, plastic canvassing, needlepoint, baking cookies, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family.
Bernadine is survived by her husband Gilbert of Reinbeck; children Marilyn Carstensen of Gladbrook, Eunice (Tom) Jacobsen of Allen, TX, Shirley Niedermann of Center Point, IA, Eldon Niedermann of Ft. Worth, TX and Sandy (Jerry) Schweer of Center Point, IA; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brother Eldon Mattingly of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Dallas, Delmar and James Mattingly and sisters Geneva Earhart and Bernice Mattingly; son-in-law Floyd Carstensen.
