Berdene Bartels

Berdene Bartels went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2012. She was born February 10, 1923 to Albert and Helen (Feldman) Bartels in George, Iowa. The family moved when she was four years old to Grundy Center, Iowa where she attended the Grundy Center Public School and graduated in 1941. She retired from the Social Security Administration in Waterloo, Iowa in 1985.
Berdene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center where she played the organ for a number of years.
She is survived by five nieces and nephews: Beverly (Ronald) Blessing of Rapid City, S.D.; Arthur (Dorothy) Bartels, Ames, IA; Barbara (Stephen) Piedt, Grand Rapids, MI; Robert (Rebecca) Bartels, Virginia Beach, VA; Shari (Alan) Beals, Keizer, OR., and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents;one brother, Everett and two sisters, Lorraine and Jeanette.
Visitation will be at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center on Friday evening, March 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Grundy Center on Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
Memorials may be made to the family.
