Avonelle L. Sayer, 95, of Eldora, died on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 31 at the Eldora City Cemetery with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Avonelle was born June 5, 1917 near Eldora, daughter of Omer and Mable (Blair) Hubbard. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1935 then taught country school for about three years. On December 31, 1940 she was united in marriage to Merle John Sayer at her parent's home near Eldora where they farmed and raised their family of two sons, David and Ronald. She enjoyed gardening raising vegetables and flowers.
Surviving is her sons, David Sayer and Ronald (Jackie) Sayer of Eldora; sister, Betty Hutchins of Coralville; grandchildren, Kiley Sayer of Fort Dodge and her fiancée, J.D. Rockafellow, and Christopher Sayer of Eldora; and step-grandson, Nicholas Sayer of Eldora. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle on January 17, 2002; sister, Vera Balvanz; infant sister, Ethel Mae; brother, Joe Hubbard; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Sayer.
