Avis M. Steinfeldt, 95, of Eldora, passed away on Tuesday September 8, 2015 at the Grundy Care Center. Visitation will be held on Monday September 14, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eldora. Burial will be held at Eldora City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Avis was born on March 3, 1920 in Felix Township, Grundy County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Bert and Celista (Lowe) Sisson. She graduated from Whitten High School in the class of 1938. She worked as a nanny for local families for a brief time. During World War II Avis entered Cadet Nurse's School in Marshalltown, when she met her husband Arthur and was united in marriage on September 25, 1945 at the parsonage of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eldora, together they welcomed four children into their family.
Avis was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eldora. She was a member of Mary Missions Circle and an honorary member of Ladies Aide. She was a 4H leader for 10 years. Avis was an avid gardener and reader. She also loved to crochet and sew. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Avis is survived by her daughters Shirley Halsey of Eldora and Susan (Perry) Martin of Norwalk, IA; her son William (Marjorie) Steinfeldt of Eldora; daughter-in-law Nancy Steinfeldt; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; her sister Velda Freed of Waukee, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur; son Gary Steinfeldt and brothers Floyd and Theodore Sisson.
