Austin A. Blomgren, 76, of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, 10:00 A.M. at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial will follow funeral services at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Austin was born on April 1, 1936 in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Oscar & Nellie (Roper) Blomgren. He worked various jobs throughout his life but he worked mainly as a farm hand in Grundy County. Austin married Wilma Frana at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and the couple later divorced. On August 14, 1993, Austin was united in marriage to Adelia Menuey. The two made their home in Grundy Center.
Austin was a member of the Waterloo Collectors Club. He enjoyed tractor rides, John Deere Tractors, 2-Cylinder tractors and restoring them with his son Dwight.
He is survived by his wife Adelia Menuey-Blomgren of Grundy Center; sons Dwight (Kristine) Blomgren of Marshalltown & David Blomgren of Waterloo; step-children Barbara (James) McAlpin of Woodward, IA, Scott Menuey of Fort Worth, TX & Edward Menuey of Waterloo; sisters Luwain Gaul and Elaine Gaul, both of Cresco; half-sisters Benita (Bill) Carney of Iowa City, Peggy (Carl) Wentworth of Evansdale; step-sisters Jean Iben of Boone and JoAnne Stockdale of Ridgeway, IA; his best friend & companion, his cat Tinker. Austin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Debra Blomgren & sons Austin Jr. & Mitchell in infancy; sister Grace Roche; step-sisters Karen Salisbury, Connie Smith & Val Eiffler.
