August L. Steinmeyer, 79, of Grundy Center, died on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center, IA.

August was born March 19, 1927, at home in Lincoln Township, Grundy Center, IA, son of August Lammert and Grace (Rozevink) Steinmeyer. August attended country school and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1945. August served in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. On May 1, 1952 August was united in marriage to Anita Jane Berends at the Parkersburg Christian Reformed Church. The couple farmed in rural Grundy Center. Anita passed away February 8, 1969. August then married Arlene Elaine Meyer Wiegman on May 24, 1971 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, IA. August retired from farming in 1996 and moved into town in 2001. August served as deacon of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Township Trustee, and was a member of the American Legion Post # 349 and AMVETS Post #17.

Survived by his wife Arlene; 5 children, Debra (Allan) Myers of Grundy Center, IA, August Steven (Sheila) Steinmeyer of Grundy Center, IA, Cynthia Saylor (Leon) Barber of Vinton, IA, Lisa (Scott) Harms of Waverly, IA, and Curtis (Karen) Wiegman of Grundy Center, IA; 13 grandchildren: Brad Myers, Brian Myers, Kristy Myers, August David Steinmeyer, Jason Steinmeyer, Emily Saylor, Alicia Saylor, Michael Barber, Daisy Barber, Amanda Harms, Jeff Harms, Karrie Hawk and James Wiegman; and 2 great grandsons: Lawson Ash, and Hunter Hawk; 2 brothers, Marvin (Joyce) Steinmeyer of Grundy Center, IA, and James (Janice) Steinmeyer of Grundy Center, IA; and 7 sisters, Mary Henze of Grundy Center, IA, Anna Mae Meyers of Grundy Center, IA, JoAnn Wrage of Grundy Center, IA, Barbara Huntley of Stout, IA, Alice Koltoff of Aplington, IA, Rozella (Lary) Riebkes of Wellsburg, IA, and Wonda (Larry) Sovereign of Iowa City, IA.

He is preceded in death by his wife Anita; parents; step-father Leland Bingham; and brother: Alvin Steinmeyer.
