Arthur Frerichs
February 2, 1920 — January 15, 2014
Arthur Lee Frerichs, age 93, of Eldora, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center, in Eldora, while under the care of Iowa Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. Burial will be held privately. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Arthur was born on February 2, 1920 in rural Steamboat Rock, IA, to his parents William and Rena (Wubben) Frerichs. He was raised in rural Steamboat Rock where he attended country school. Arthur worked on the family farm until his marriage to Betty Van Dornum on July 17, 1946. He then began working for Potgieter's Elevator and as a US postal carrier, where he earned their safe driver award. He went on to work for the Lovell Denison Lumber Yard in Eldora then Lawn Hill Lumber Yard in New Providence until his retirement.
Arthur was a long time member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. He enjoyed growing sweet corn with his son Doug. Arthur loved to tinker in his shop where he worked with wood and worked on small engines. He also loved to use and maintain his antique tractors and helping his daughter and son-in-law on their farm at harvest time.
Arthur is survived by his wife Betty, of Eldora; his daughter Diane (Steve) Rash of Union, IA; daughter-in-law Marcia Frerichs of Steamboat Rock, IA; granddaughters Renee Frerichs (Jerry Carter) and Gina Montejano and his great-grandsons Tyler and Bo Montejano. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Douglas Frerichs; sister Ester Steinfeldt and brother Carl Frerichs.
