Arthur Flater

April 4, 1919 — July 1, 2006

Arthur C. Flater, 87, of Grundy Center, died from natural causes on Saturday, July 01, 2006 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation is from 4 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with Arthur's family present to receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm. Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center.



Arthur was born April 4, 1919 in Lincoln Township, rural Holland, Iowa, son of August and Tillie (Rewerts) Flater. He was a graduate of country school, Lincoln #4 and was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church near Fern, Iowa. On March 30, 1944 Arthur was united in marriage to Lillian R. Luchtenburg at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. He farmed 4 A� miles north of Grundy Center, raising both grain and livestock, and retired in 1987 moving into Grundy Center.



He was an active and faithful member of the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Arthur always looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Minnesota and gathering with his friends at the Farmer's Elevator for coffee. He also enjoyed playing "pepper" and also had a great interest of the area's history and genealogy.



He is survived by four sons, Loren Flater and his wife Pat of Toddville, Iowa, Nick Flater and his wife Deanna of Rich Hill, Missouri, Reg Flater and his wife Linda of Federalsburg, Maryland, Tim Flater of rural Holland, Iowa; daughter, Brenda Lowery and her husband Delbert Jr. of Bellingham, Washington: eight grandchildren, Dan Lowery, Suzanne Nicholson, Jama Stilwell, and Jason, Shane, Jacob, Brandon and Kyle Flater; four great grandchildren, Zoe and Gabriel Lowery, and Alexander and Madeline Nicholson; and sister, Leola Schmidt and her husband Carl of Grundy Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian on September 17, 2002; his parents; brother, Alvin; and sisters, Minnie Arends, Louise Reinicke, and Alice Flater.
