Arnold J. Bassett, 93, of Reinbeck, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Eagle Center, Iowa with Father Ray Atwood officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with a 6:30 P.M. scripture service. Graveside service will be Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at11:30 A.M at St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin, Minnesota. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice in Arnie's name.
Arnold Joseph Bassett was born the son of Ernest and Mary (Bucholtz) Bassett on September 23, 1920, in Jamestown, ND. Arnie grew up in Minneapolis, MN, and graduated from North High School. On May 3, 1940, Arnie was united in marriage to Margaret Elizabeth Therien in Minneapolis, MN. They lived in Crystal and Aitkin MN until her death in 1999. Arnie married Arlene Volker on June 3, 2000 in Hudson, IA where they made their home. He was a salesman that enjoyed selling cars and later selling cards for American Greeting retiring in 1982. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending the winters in Florida and spending time with his family. Arnie was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Eagle Center, IA and Oak Leaf Country Club in Reinbeck, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Marge.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Reinbeck; daughter, Pat Fredin of Maple Grove, MN; sons, Dick Bassett and his wife Pat of Maple Grove, MN and Mike Bassett and wife Sheryl of Eden Prairie, MN; one sister, Lorraine Weber of Apple Valley, MN; step-children, Gary ( Mel) Sivertsen, Dennis (Cathy) Sivertsen. Curt (Jo) Sivertsen, Jilene (Mike) Regan, Jerry (Dena) Volker and Sherilyn (Scott) Kistner; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
