Arnold Dale Arends, 86, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at his home in Wellsburg under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg. Visitation will be Monday, March 30, 2009 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Doyen –Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg with family present to greet friends. Memorials maybe made to Cedar Valley Hospice and Wellsburg Reformed Church in Arnold's name. Arnold Arends was born March 28, 1923 in Ackley, Iowa the son of Dick G. and Anna (Beving) Arends. Arnold grew up on the family farm east of Ackley and attended Ackley Public School. He graduated from Ackley High in 1940. On November 23, 1944, Arnold was united in marriage to Augusta Helen Geerdes at Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Wellsburg. Arnold was Agency Manager for Farm Bureau for 27 years and Grundy Mutual for 6 years. He retired in 1988 and spent his free time playing golf and traveling with his wife Helen. Arnold liked listening to music, working in his garden and wintering in Arizona with Helen. Arnold was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher, deacon, elder. He was on the finance committee of the Reformed Church General Program Council. He was a wonderful loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Helen of Wellsburg, Iowa; daughter, Dee Ann McCormick and her husband Tom of Atlanta GA; son, Ron Arends and his wife Karen of Cedar Falls, IA; grandchildren, Dan Arends and Amanda Arends; brother Donald Arends and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Arends Buss and Evelyn Arends Freeseman.
