Arlene Pekarek Hartwig Wingrove, age 95, of Marshalltown, IA, formerly of Eldora, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Arlene was born on August 31, 1918 in Geneva, Iowa the daughter of George and Myrtle (Pickering) Pekarek. She graduated from the Geneva Consolidated High School with the Class of 1936. Arlene attended Teachers College in Cedar Falls and then went on to teach in rural schools for 5 years. She was united in marriage to Wesley Hartwig on June 23, 1942 in Princeton, Missouri. Together they made their home in Hampton and later in Eldora and welcomed two daughters into their family. Arlene and Wesley enjoyed many happy years together until Wesley's passing on December 2, 1993. On December 6, 1996, Arlene married Donald Wingrove. In 2003 the couple moved to the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.
Arlene was an active member in the Eldora United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and belonged to the Women's Circle. Arlene enjoyed assisting with the Congregate Meals Program as well as the Meals on Wheels Program. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family.
Arlene is survived by her husband Donald Wingrove of Marshalltown, IA; her daughters Betty (Gregg) Blome of Rolla, MO and Barbara (Paul) Fredericks of Iowa Falls, IA; grandsons Adam, Austin and Alec Blome and Nathan and Andrew Fredericks; brother Robert (Ruth) Pekarek of Iowa Falls, IA and many nieces and nephews; 2 step-daughters, 3 step-sons and 11 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley Hartwig and a brother in infancy.
