Arlene Engelkes

Arlene H. Engelkes, age 90, of Reinbeck, Iowa formerly of Holland, Iowa; passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. Memorial visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. until time of memorial service at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Burial will be held privately at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Arlene was born on January 11, 1924 on the family farm in Grundy County, Iowa to her parents Will & Lena (Smit) Engelkes. She grew up in rural Holland and attended country school Colfax # 8. Arlene was very helpful to her parents on the family farm. She loved animals especially dogs. She enjoyed coloring, puzzles and loved her dolls. Her true joy in life came from spending time at home with her family. She was a longtime member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her sister Mae (Ray) Hinders of Holland, IA; nieces and nephews Diane Hinders, Cindy (Jay) Freese, Randy (Jill) Hinders, David (Melisa) Hinders, Sandra (Jim) Black, Terri Smith, Kim Smith & Toni Smith and 10 grand nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Esther Engelkes & Alma Smith; nephew Geoff Smith.
