Anona M. Arends, 97, of Grundy Center, Iowa died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Arlington Place in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service for Anona will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery. A visitation for Anona will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Anona.
Anona Margaret Kruger, daughter of Albert and Lena (Wolthoff) Kruger was born on June 12, 1920 in rural Holland, Iowa. She received her education in Parkersburg, Iowa graduating from Parkersburg High School. On September 2, 1940 Anona married Clarence Jacob Arends at her grandparent’s home in rural Fern, Iowa where the couple resided until moving to their farm in rural Holland. They later moved to a farm north of Morrison. Anona lived her whole life in Grundy County. Her hobbies included embroidery and gardening. She was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra (Richard) Henningsen of Grundy Center, Jean Eiklenborg of Shell Rock; sons, Ron (Karen) Arends of Reinbeck, Jay (Toni) Arends of rural Dike; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sister, Marlys Klinehart of Cedar Falls; and her sister-in-law, Dorthea Kruger of Parkersburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; granddaughter, Torri Hennig; brothers, Klaus and Orlen Kruger and her sister, Berdene Pruisner.
