Annette O'Kones

Annette Eileen O'Kones, 92, of West Union, IA, formerly of Wellsburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 28th at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in West Union. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, 617 E. 4th St. Wellsburg, IA, with visitation beginning at 9:45 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service at the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Annette was born on March 13, 1922, the daughter of Eilert & Tena (Kruse) Knock on a farm in Shiloh Township. She received her elementary education in Shiloh and Colfax Townships and graduated from Wellsburg High School with the class of 1939. On December 25, 1943, Annette was united in marriage to Harold J. O'Kones at her parents' home. They lived on the same O'Kones farm in Melrose Township until retiring in 1978, when they moved to Wellsburg. Harold & Annette celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 25, 2003.

She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Annette also enjoyed playing the piano & organ, reading, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, whether it was hosting a tea party, having coffee or playing cards. Annette was a hardworking and dedicated mother and memories of her will be forever treasured by her family.

Annette is survived by her children Ronald (Barbara) O'Kones of West Union, IA, Roger O'Kones & Joan O'Kones of Iowa City, IA; 3 grandsons Matthew (Mary) O'Kones of West Union, IA, Jared O'Kones of Pittsfield, Massachusetts & Nathan O'Kones of Hawaii; 3 great-grandsons Jordan, Dillon & Brandon O'Kones. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold; brother Wilbur Knock & sister Irene Ruter.
