Anna M. Ridder, 91, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Thursday, October 28, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October, 30, 2004, at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, rural Wellsburg, Iowa, with Pastor Betsy Piette officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery in rural Wellsburg. Visitation will be Friday, October 29, 2004, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg, Iowa. Visitation will also be Saturday morning from 8:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. The family will be present on Friday evening to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established. Anna was born December 17, 1912, in Grundy County, rural Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Henry H. and Minnie (Haan) Hook. She received her education at Pleasant Valley #4 rural country school. On February 14, 1934, Anna was united in marriage to Philip Ridder in Ackley, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed in rural Grundy County, and in 1945, they moved to their current farm, living there ever since. Her husband Philip died on June 30, 1956.
Anna was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the Ladies Society. She embroidered a lot in her younger years. Anna was a good cook and made wonderful pies for all of her family. She loved living on the farm and she loved dogs. Anna also enjoyed reading.
She is survived by one daughter Marlys Kruse and her husband Harold of Wellsburg, Iowa; two sons Robert Ridder and his wife Rita of Hazelton, Iowa; and Merle Ridder and his wife Janell of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Philip in 1956; one brother John Hook; and one sister Jennie Rewerts.
