Anna E. Galatas, 97 of Dike, died Monday, April, 17, 2006 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Dike United Methodist Church.
Anna was born on August 25, 1908, on a farm near Dike the daughter of John and Anna ?Zapp? Weber. She graduated from Dike High School in 1928. She worked at Dizlers CafAsh the last 3 years of high school. Then she moved to Illinois returned to Iowa in 1945 worked at Russell Lamson Hotel in Waterloo.
In 1947 Anna married Henry Galatas in Kansas City, Missouri. The made their home in New Hartford, Iowa the moved to Dike in 1952 Mr. & Mrs. Galatas owned and operated the Barn Coffee Shop until 1962. Anna worked at U.N.I. as a housekeeper at Bartlett Hall for ten years until her retirement at age 65. Henry passes away in August of 1974. After his death Anna began working a few days a week for Helen and Ralph Immings at the Barn CafAsh, she worked there 25 years. She sold her home in Dike and resided at the Western Home Communities until her death.
Anna was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church where she was active in the Afternoon Circle and the U.M.W. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen and Grant Study Club. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels. Anna liked being busy and doing for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; and 2 brothers: Chris and John Weber.
Survivors include her two step daughters Connie Barbatschi of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, and Shirley Baker of Rockville, Maryland; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; a sister in law: Ruby Weber of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 2 nephews: Jay C. Weber of Cedar Falls, Iowa and James Weber of Waterloo, Iowa; 3 nieces: Joanne Norman of Traer, Iowa, Donna Moberly of Santa Rosa, California and Carol Borden of Strasburg, Virginia.
