Anna Mae Bernard, 88, of Ackley, formerly of Wellsburg, died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg, Iowa. Following the visitation, Funeral services will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Hudson Iowa.

She was born April 16, 1927, in rural Cedar Falls, to parents August and Marion Andorf. She married Ernest Bernard on March 9, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hudson. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Anna graduated from Allen Memorial School of Nursing in 1948 and proudly worked as a nurse for many years. Her desire to help others extended well beyond her nursing career, including time volunteering at Grundy's Cedar Valley Hospice. Anna and Ernest also owned and farmed land outside of Wellsburg where they lived for over 40 years. She was a devout member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Anna loved to crochet, quilt, spend time with family, listen to her husband play the organ and bake. Her red velvet cake was a favorite among all who knew her. She also wanted to remember everything and recorded memories in countless sentimental notes and behind a camera by taking pictures. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Bernard and her children, Paul (Joanne) Bernard, Beth Carlson and Margie Schenkelberg. Her grandchildren, Amanda (Wyatt) Miller, Brianna Schenkelberg, Kayla Schenkelberg and Amber Tennison. Four great-grandchildren, Owen, Evan, Morgan and Brexton Miller; and her sister, Lorraine Joens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Marion Andorf. Two brothers, Harold and Gerold Andorf. A sister, Marie Andorf Pedersen. Two brothers-in-law, Earnest Joens and Robert Pedersen.
