Andeline Abels

Andeline E. “Andy” Abels, 90, of Grundy Center, formerly of Wellsburg, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Grundy Care Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Andy was born on May 5, 1927 in rural Wellsburg, Iowa to her parents Peter and Fannie (Murra) Ruter. She was raised on the family farm in rural Wellsburg and graduated from the Wellsburg High School in the class of 1946. She was united in marriage to Irwin D. Abels on July 17, 1947 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church and together they welcomed their daughter Maxine and their son Leon into their family.

Andy was a life-long member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church. There she served the church for many years as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the women’s group and a member of the choir. Andy and Irwin retired in 1990 and upon retirement enjoyed camping, fishing and playing cards together. Andy also enjoyed knitting, word search puzzles and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Upon Irwin’s death in July of 2012, Andy moved to the Grundy Care Center where she enjoyed Bingo & Skip-Bo with her newfound friends.

Andy is survived by her daughter Maxine (Jay) Flater of Grundy Center, IA; son Leon (Brenda) Abels of Wellsburg, IA; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Margie (John) Kuhlman. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Irwin.
