Alvin Meyer, 89, of Holland, Iowa died on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, from injuries sustained in a fall from a ladder nearly three weeks ago. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church in Rural Grundy Center, Iowa with Pastor Dale Janssen officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation is from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with his family present to greet friends from 6 pm to 8 pm. Memorials may be directed to the family and will be donated to the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoebox Program.
Alvin
was born October 12, 1918, in Holland, son of Deddo and Ella (Franken) Meyer. On July 30, 1940 he was united in marriage to Helen Thorn and they made their home in Holland where Alvin was self employed as a gravel and lime trucker. He was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; son Dean and his wife, January of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Deb Ahrenholz and her husband, Steve of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters, Teena Mohlis of Nampa, Idaho, Lorraine Heronimus of Loveland, Colorado and Lavine Weichers also of Loveland; and by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Vincent Lee; and five brothers and six sisters.
