Alice M. Andreessen, 94, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Dike, died from natural causes on Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Riverside Manor Nursing Home in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Dike, Iowa, with Pastor Matt Conover officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 at the Stout Cemetery in Stout, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Dike. The Dike Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Alice was born September 17, 1910, near Stout, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde S. and Mina R. (Copley) Martz. Alice attended Palermo Township schools south of Grundy Center through the eighth grade. She was married to Herman Andreessen on September 11, 1941 in Stout, Iowa. Alice and Herman made their home near Stout where they farmed until 1943 when they moved to a farm near New Hartford, Iowa. When Herman retired in 1975 they moved to Dike, Iowa. Alice was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church where she was active in the Dike United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Women's Relief Corp., Farm Bureau, and Rebekah's Lodge. Alice loved flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed embroidery and was an avid reader all her life. She relished playing cards with friends and doing cross-word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol and her husband Gerald Kline of Ames, Iowa; her step-daughter, Lois and her husband Garyald Harms of Bloomington, Minnesota; four grand children; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman on June 30, 1978; and sister, Rhoda B. Kell of Grundy Center, Iowa.
