Alfred Cheeseman

Alfred Carl Cheeseman, 92, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at Unity Point Hospital in Waterloo, IA, of natural causes. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Legion Action Post #242 of Reinbeck, Iowa.

Alfred Carl was born on July 19, 1922, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Amelia (Schroeder) Cheeseman. He was raised in Reinbeck and graduated from Reinbeck High School in the Class of 1940. Al worked a short time after graduation before he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served his country during WWII as a bomber pilot at the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged in 1948.

Al was united in marriage to Betty Jane Mack on May 29, 1944, at Walnut Baptist Church in Waterloo, IA. They made Reinbeck their home and welcomed their children, Skip and Dick, into their family. Al worked twenty-five years as a Standard Oil Agent.

Al was a lifelong member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. He was an active member in the American Legion Action Post #242 of Reinbeck.

After retirement he and Betty enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Texas. He enjoyed playing golf as well as watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with his friends and family.

Al is survived by his wife Betty of Reinbeck, sons Alfred "Skip" (Jill) Cheeseman of Mill Creek, WA, and Richard "Dick" (Dianne Foster) Cheeseman of Waverly, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brother Harry Cheeseman of Reinbeck and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lawrence and sister Ruth Kratzer.
