Agnes M. (Johnson) Hauser of Conrad, IA, formerly of Union, died peacefully at her home at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad Friday afternoon September 9, 2011. Following a private family committal in the Hauser Cemetery near Union a memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Community Church in Union, with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. Visitation will be at the Community Church of Union on Monday evening from 6pm to 8pm. Memorials may be directed to the Union Public Library Foundation or the Union Community Church Foundation. She was born in Roland, IA, November 26, 1910, daughter of Eli and Magdalena (Christianson) Johnson and lived on the family farm until her graduation from Roland High School in 1928. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers' College in 1930. After beginning her teaching career in Ellsworth she moved to Whitten where she met her future husband Herbert. They were married July 23, 1937.
Agnes gave up teaching to become a homemaker but returned to the classroom at Union-Whitten in 1958. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Drake University in 1964 and retired from teaching in 1973. She and Herb moved to Union in 1962 and lived there until moving to Conrad in 2005. She was a lifelong reader and an excellent quilter.
She is survived by children, Gary (Annamaria) of Union and Steven of Iowa City; grandchildren, Sylvia (Lex Neal) Hauser of Grafenwoehr, Germany, Lisa (Randy) Duncan of Indio CA; and great-grandchildren, Paden, Ella, and Nele. Also surviving are a sister, Ethyleen (Glenn) Sampson of Nevada, and a brother, Herbert Johnson of Story City. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Herb on February 14, 2005; parents Eli and Magdalena Johnson; brothers, Earl, Marion, and Julius; and sisters, Ruth and Jeannette.
