Adolph Kolpek, 94, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, Iowa, while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Friday, July 13, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Phil Dicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Adolph Kolpek was born September 19, 1917, near Clutier, Iowa, the son of Mike and Agnes (Josifek) Kolpek. Adolph attended country school near Buckingham, IA. On October 5, 1940, he was united in marriage to Irene G. Hornig and they had two daughters, Susan and Cinda. Irene passed away at the age of 35 of cancer when their daughters were 9 and 6 years old. On December 11, 1952, he married Gertie H. Eilderts and together they had one daughter, Lorna.
Adolph worked in the Defense Plant in Dixon, IL before being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1944. Upon a partial medical discharge from the military, he moved to Grundy Center and worked as a mechanic in Ibling's Chevrolet garage and later as a linotype operator at the Spokesman Press.
Adolph was a long time member of the Grundy Center United Methodist Church where he held several offices. He was a member ZCBJ Lodge of Traer, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Gertie; daughters, Susan Tessau and her husband Roy of Reinbeck, Iowa, Cinda Jarstad and her husband Elwood of Decorah, Iowa, Lorna Barnes of Marion; 5 grandchildren: 10 great grandchildren: 2 great great grandchildren; and one brother, Charles of Silver Lake, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Irene; brothers, Emanuel, Milo, Emil, Frank and Louie; sisters, Libby, Emma and Hattie.
